Fake Powerbank

What else could be fake from China? Here you go, the fake powerbank. If you guys are not familiar, a powerbank actually works as an extra battery pack which could be use to re-charge your device on-the-go. Those heavy little boxy device are getting more and more popular nowadays as people just simply can't get their smartphone to last the entire day.

From the picture above, you would be able to see that the powerbank has a charging capacity of 24000mAh which is very very high and normally would require a very big enclosure. The iPhone 5 has a battery capacity of 1450mAh. A simple calculation would give you approximately 16 times of recharging possible with the 24000mAh powerbank.
Needless to say, the device above is actually a fake with the enclosure being packed with sands. That little cylinder next to the PCB board is the actual battery. From the looks of it, it'll probably be less than 2400mAh.

Samsung Galaxy's Next Launch - 14th March 2013

The next best thing for Samsung smartphone users are coming up on March 14th. The Samsung Galaxy SIV is widely expected to be the announced during the event in New York 7pm EST which translates to 7am Malaysian time.
Live streaming could be obtained at www.youtube.com/SamsungMobile

Update: JK Shin, Vice President of the Samsung Mobile confirmed that the March 14th event would see the launching of the Samsung Galaxy SIV.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0

The war on tablet is more heated than ever with the Samsung new introduction to the tablet family. Samsung during MWC 2013 in Barcelona recently announced the arrival of the iPad mini direct competitor named Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0.

As the naming goes, this is an 8-inch device which has very much similar outlook as the Samsung Galaxy Note II. Some would say the Galaxy SIII, Galaxy Note II and Note 8.0 are of the similar lazy mechanical styling designer as not much difference in terms of design is actually seen in the recent Samsung Galaxy devices since the Galaxy SIII. Galaxy Note II grows slightly 0.8-inches from the Galaxy SIII and the Galaxy Note 8.0 grows additional 2.5-inches from the Galaxy Note II.

The Note family members are always equipped with something slightly different from the rest of the Galaxy family, which is the SPen.

In the hood:

  • 1280 x 800 screen resolution (189ppi)
  • 1.6GHz A9 Quad-Core processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB or 32GB
  • micro SD Card expandable
  • 5MP and 1.3MP front-facing camera
  • Battery capacity 4600mAh
  • Powered by Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean
  • 3G and WiFi models
Unfortunately no price was announced during the launch but to be a serious contender to the iPad mini, the price has to be similar to RM999 as the WiFi 16GB version of the iPad mini.

The first telco to introduce 4G LTE in Malaysia has now launched their first 2 products package, namely the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC One XL. Both devices supports 2600MHz LTE bandwidth in which Maxis 4G LTE is running on. Unfortunately not many 4G LTE devices in Malaysia supports the 2600MHz band. For example, the iPhone 5 does not.
During the launch, both devices will only be available in Maxis KLCC and TTDI. LTE coverage are limited at the moment.
