Samsung Galaxy Note 2 - August 29th

Samsung had confirmed the earlier claim that the next generation Samsung Galaxy Note will be launch on 29th August 2012 in Berlin during the IFA event. This brings the competition right to Apple as normally the iPhone launching event happens somewhere in October. It was already reported earlier that the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will be release in September but now it seemed like Samsung is pushing hard to release the flagship device even earlier to the world.

Just to recap, rumors are suggesting the Note 2 to feature an even bigger screen of 5.5-inch with a full HD screen resolution of 1280x720. Inside, we are now expecting a Exynos quad-core processor similar to the Samsung Galaxy SIII. Obviously, the Note 2 must be shipped with the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Maxis New MNP Promotions

Maxis is offering a port-in packages which include iPhone 4S, HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy Note and Nokia Lumia 900. The only downside is that you will have to fork out an upfront payment of RM1500 if you're planning on getting a iPhone 4S or RM1000 for the others.
The port-in or MNP will require a 24 months contract with the Maxis Value Plus 50 + 1GB Mobile Internet Plan. That is RM50 and RM48 respectively. For a complete 24 month contract, you will be paying (RM50 + RM48) x 24 + RM799 = RM3151 for the iPhone 4S.

As for Samsung Galaxy Note, total payment on the 24 months contract would be (RM50 + RM48) x 24 + RM599 = RM2951.
In comparison with the usual plan, for a Samsung Galaxy Note with the same Value Plus 50 and 1GB data plan, you will be paying (RM50 + RM48) x 24 + RM1449 = RM3801. You would have saved RM850 with the MNP port-in package.

The offer is valid not only for MNP applications but to existing Maxis postpaid customers as well.

[Rumor] Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Screen Size of 5.5-inch Confirmed?

courtesy of GSMArena

Samsung Galaxy Note next generation are expected to have a larger screen of 5.5-inch and a slimmer body. The current Galaxy Note is having a squarish look of 5.3-inch. The Note 2 is now expecting similar body feel of the Samsung Galaxy SIII. The device was earlier rumored to be launching in October 2012 which has now being carried forward to September 2012. Insider sources were saying that the earlier release was to avoid clashing with the next generation iPhone 5 release which is widely predicted to be in October.

The Galaxy Note 2 are expected to have 8MP camera with improved sensor (probably similar ones as the Galaxy SIII) and probably a quad-core processor with 2GB RAM. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was expected straight out of the box as well.

[Maxis] Samsung Galaxy Note Plans

Maxis too has jump into the Samsung Galaxy Note bandwagon but with much delay. Anyway, the cheapest combination to own a Galaxy Note with Maxis would be signing up with Value First (RM30/month) and a 1GB data plan (RM48/month) which would give you the smartphone for RM1749 for a 24 months contract. So, in total after 24 months, you would have paid RM3621.

When comparing with DiGi, the total payment after 24 months would be RM2781 but that does not include any other calls or SMS/MMS chargers. The 24 months plan only includes 1GB data plan. For comparison sake, assume monthly calls or SMS to be RM30/month, you will approximately be pay RM3501. Slightly cheaper than Maxis by RM120.

With Celcom the monthly commitment of RM88/month, you will get 1GB data plan with RM50 calls and SMS. For a 18 month contract, the smartphone is priced at RM1748. In total after 18 months, you will pay RM3332. So for comparison purpose again with 24 months, the total payment is RM3861.
Taking the comparison of Maxis's 18 months contract, the difference between Maxis and Celcom would be RM3332 (Celcom) - RM3253 (Maxis) = RM79. Maxis is slightly cheaper but Celcom has a RM50 monthly calls and SMS credit when compared to Maxis which is RM30.
