Apple iOS 6 Preview

iOS 6 was released as beta yesterday and it is expected to be fully launched in fall. Fall season in 2012 starts on 22nd September. That means it should not be earlier than that.

In the new iOS 6, Siri was updated to be even more capable. It is now able to launch apps in which it could not previously. It now has more capability of searching for restaurants, more sports news and also movies. As we all here in Malaysia would have known, Siri is only capable of searching for weather conditions. Even the previous integration with Google Maps doesn't work either. So for us in Malaysia, nothing to cheer about in this upgraded Siri in iOS 6. Siri will also be available in the new iPad.

As we have heard thee rumors, Apple is now releasing its own Map. It has the capability of providing turn-by-turn navigation, live traffic updates as well as 3D imaging which Apple named it as Flyover. Obviously this replaces the Google Maps in the next generation iOS 6.

Apple did a nice tweak on the iOS 6 by allowing the users to dismiss calls with a swipe and sending pre-compiled SMS after rejecting a call. It is also capable of setting a location-based reminder for such purpose as well. Another feature is the Do Not Disturb feature in which the notifications/reminders/calendar will not no longer pop. You can set a specific time for the DND to happen. This is good especially when you're sleeping.

Facebook integration is also the newly available fine-tuned feature in the iOS 6.

All in all, it does seem like a lot of minor tweaks here and there on the iOS 6. The iOS 6 will be available officially for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 2, new iPad and iPod Touch 4th Gen.

[Rumor] iPad 3 Front Glass and Rear Body

Courtesy of MIC Gadget, the pictures in this current post shows the front glass and the rear aluminum body which represents the upcoming iPad 3. The latest pictures reassure that the next generation iPad indeed still has the home button which was rumored earlier not to have one based on the invitation picture sent out by Apple. I guess the picture must have been taken in the landscape mode. At least that's the only logical explanation to the picture from Apple invitation.

From all the above pictures, it points to the direction that the iPad 3 will be having almost similar outlook design as the iPad 2. No bigger camera slot opening from the casing design which suggest no 8MP camera on the rear. The last picture shows the comparison between the casing of iPad 2 and iPad 3. Not sure if the comparison was done at the same direction but notice there is missing speaker grill on the iPad 3. The iPad 3 too look slightly thicker when compared to iPad 2.

[Rumor] Thicker iPad 3

Apple.pro posted recently the comparison of the iPad 2 and iPad 3 in terms of body thickness. From the measurement noted in the caliper, iPad 2 has a reading of 8.69mm and the iPad 3 reads 9.5mm. That gives a difference of approximately 0.81mm. Please take note that the reading in blue text is wrong by a factor of 10. Reading on the caliper is correct.

[Rumor] 8GB iPad 2

It is now rumored that a lower range 8GB iPad 2 will be released along side with the iPad 3. It somehow make sense if the iPad 3 will be sold at a higher price as indicated by the earlier rumor.
This will enable Apple to continue dominating the tablet market be it on the high price range or the lower price range.

Apple to Lose iPad Trademark in China and Risk Paying 2.4 Billion in Compensation?

Is Apple getting into trouble in China? It all began when Apple file a lawsuit against a China company named Proview Technology of the name iPad. Sometime back in Dec 2011, the result were out and Apple surprisingly lost the lawsuit. Subsequently, Apple filed for an appeal to the Higher People's Court. In the event if the appeal is also rejected, sources are saying that Apple may risk paying 2.4 billion Yuan as a compensation.

Thanks to weibo, the picture above shows the legitimate document that Proview Technology holds the rights to the name IPAD since year 2000. Spokesperson from Proview is quoted to be saying that Proview is asking for a court order to stop the sales and marketing of the iPad products in China and also demanded an apology from Apple.

So, what happens now to the current sales of iPad in China? Amazon China has reported to remove the sales of iPad and iPad 2 from their website.

A quick check on Amazon China webpage on iPad or iPad 2 brings the result of only accessories. Up to date, there is no official statement from Apple regarding the halt of sales of iPad in China.
