Maxis FastTap NFC Service

Bumped into Maxis website which shows NFC offering recently. Was not aware that Maxis had actually started offering NFC services via Nokia 6212. The picture above actually shows "coming soon" Maxis FastTap NFC capabilities for the iPhone. We all know well that even the latest iPhone 4S does not come with NFC built-in. Observe closely the picture of the iPhone and you will notice an adapter attached to the device. A quick search shows that the NFC adapter is designed by Wireless Dynamics in the US and the adapter name is called iCarte.

Current offer from Maxis FastTap is via Nokia 6212. This is the first mobile phone that has a built-in NFC way back in 2009. That means for the moment, you will only be able to enjoy the FastTap NFC service from Maxis via Nokia 6212.

Maxis FastTap NFC service offers hassle-free payment for transportation via TnG, retail food outlets as well as departmental stores. Full details as shown above.

I guess what we are interested now is when the service will be available for native smartphones with built-in NFC feature, like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus powered by Android.

[U Mobile] Samsung Galaxy Nexus Plan Revealed. Plans Compared between U Mobile, DiGi, Celcom

U Mobile is the latest telco to join in the field of bundling Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Lowest commitment would be 24 months and the device price would costs RM1749. Monthly subscription of RM28/month will provide you with 1GB data. U Mobile provides up to 12 months installment for the device itself which translates to RM146/month.

Comparison table may look somewhat confusing but the most important part to look at is the last 2 rows which shows the total committed amount upon completion of the contract. U Mobile plan weighs the cheapest while Celcom has the highest amount but with RM50 worth of calls/SMS. DiGi on the other hand has a monthly fee of RM28 which is similar to U Mobile but after the RM15 and RM5 rebate if you sign up for auto-billing. If not, you will need to pay RM48 per month.

[DiGi] Samsung Galaxy Nexus DiGi Plan Updated (more expensive)

Not sure what happened but DiGi had recently updated the Samsung Galaxy Nexus plans. The most obvious impact would be the device price itself. During the pre-ordering phase, the lowest price of the device was RM1399 for a 24 months DG SmartPlan 68 plan but now it's RM1999 regardless of which  plan you choose. That only reflect RM100 savings from the original retail price of RM2099.

Below is the pre-ordering promo banner taken from DiGi approximately 10 days ago.

Not sure what is DiGi up to. Anyway, the table below shows the difference in the total commitment after 24 months.

The new plans only have 24 months contract. The 12 months contract plans were removed in the latest update. Nevertheless, the monthly commitment charges were also reduced. For DG48 plan, the monthly commitment is now RM28 from RM43 (DG48) previously. All the prices are after auto-billing rebate. In total, for DG48 plan, you will be paying additional RM90 when compared to the previous plan. But for DG68 plan, your additional payment is RM360. You can refer to this previous post for the previous plans.

[DiGi] Samsung Galaxy Nexus Pre-Order

DiGi is the first to start of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus pre-ordering and expected to deliver to your door step by 13 Jan. Almost similar concept as what they did for the iPhone 4S. Will there be a 1 day earlier delivery like the iPhone 4S previously?

There are 2 types of contract - which are the DG Smart Plan 48 and DG Smart Plan 68.

As for the DG Smart Plan 48, your monthly commitment fee is RM43 if you perform auto-billing. Calls, SMS and MMS are all charged separately according to the table above. This plan has a data plan of up to 1GB. With 24 months contract, you get a phone rebate of RM550. On the 12 months contract, the rebate is RM350. The outright purchase price is RM2099.

DG Smart Plan 68 has a data plan of 3GB. Phone rebate for 24 months contract is RM700 and for 12 months contract is RM450. Calls, SMS and MMS charges are the same. On top of the RM5 rebate due to auto-billing, the DG Smart Plan 68 has a limited RM15/month (only applicable for 24 months contract) rebate as well. That will bring the total bill to RM48/month.

Please also take note that there is an upfront payment required and it ranges from RM50 ~ RM500 depending on the contract and package.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Launched

The much awaited Samsung Galaxy Nexus (or previously known as Nexus Prime) was announced today. Amazingly, it spots a much bigger screen again with 4.65" Super AMOLED HD with a resolution of 1280x720. Most importantly, the Galaxy Nexus spots the new Android 4.0 dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich.
As rumored earlier, the rear camera is only 5MP and the front facing camera is 1.3MP.
One would ask, what is the difference between Samsung Galaxy SII and Samsung Galaxy Nexus?
Besides the bigger display, is the Galaxy Nexus better than Galaxy SII in terms of hardware specification? We now know that the Galaxy Nexus will be running on the latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich, will the Galaxy SII be given the honor to power up with the similar OS?
Brand new features spotted on the Android 4.0 is the NFC-based Android Beam and the Facial Unlock.
One unique hardware feature in the Galaxy Nexus worth mentioning is the barometer.
Expected launch in Asia is November 2011.
