iPhone Apps Review: SPYmouse

It's been a while since I've done a app review. This time, I will be doing a app review on SPY mouse. It is currently the number 1 paid app in US Apple Store.

Priced at $0.99
Developed by Electronics Arts
Filesize: 199MB
Average ratings: 4.5/5 stars from 4035 ratings
Platform: iPhone native only

Game play is simple. Get Mr. Squeak (SPY mouse) to capture all cheese without being hammered by the cats. Bare in mind there are a few types of cats during the game. Some cats are dumb which runs slow and some which are ninja types which could throw shurikens.

SPY mouse is pretty simple to navigate in the iOS system. Pretty much just have to use your finger to navigate to where you would like the mouse to be running to. The dotted lines are the lines in which the cats will be roaming. If you were in the line with the sight of the cats, you will be pounded. Becareful, the black cats are fast.

In some levels, you will notice that there are hidden areas. Usually the hidden areas are cracks found on the walls.

Chilly would make the mouse run faster and the cups/pails will prevent the cats from noticing your moves.

Of course in any games, there are BIG bosses in where you will have to attempt to defeat.

Those are the ninja cats! Balloons reduces the weight of the big giant cheese.

There are more than 72 different levels in 6 different worlds. That should keep you playing for a while.

The higher the levels you are in, Mr. Squeak will be able to carry more cheese. Bare in mind, the more you carry, the heavy it is which means the slower Mr. Squeak will be able to run.

Pros: Nice 2D graphics and simple game play
Cons: Not really that addictable and the file size for an iPhone game is huge, 199MB.

Finally Adobe Flash On iPhone/iPad

On 8th September 2011, Adobe announces Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5 and Adobe Flash Access 3.0. With the Flash Media Server 4.5, media publishers can deliver video contents to Apple's iPad and iPhone devices.
Just to recap, flash content is what Apple or rather Steve's most undesired content on the Apple products. Even the Macs does not come with pre-loaded flash programs. With Apple's straight out-of-the-box easy to use Mac OSX, omitting flash in the pre-loaded OSX is something huge. That comes to show how Steve dislike flash contents.

"Premium Video Streaming with Flash Media Server 4.5

Flash Media Server 4.5 expands on its mobile delivery options with the addition of iOS support and enables content owners to create HTTP content on the fly to reduce costs brought on by device proliferation. New features of Flash Media Server 4.5:

  • Delivery to iPad and iPhone enables businesses to use the same media and live streams to deliver full adaptive bit-rate experiences to platforms supporting Flash, as well as Apple devices, including iPad and iPhone.
  • Integrated Content Protection simplifies deployment and reduces infrastructure cost, enabling seamless streaming for advertising-funded online video.
  • On-demand Stream Packaging eliminates the need to prepare and protect assets ahead of time, reducing complexity and storage costs and simplifying publishing for businesses so they can use one set of source video to reach multiple downstream devices."

Update: Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5 only streams video content. That does not mean it will run Flash animations.

Picture Taken With iPhone 5?

PocketNow claims that this is the first picture captured with the actual iPhone 5 or perhaps a prototype iPhone 5.
Although the photo was claimed to be taken from an iPhone 4, the EXIF data shows that the original picture size was 3264x2448 which is very close to 8MP. The lens was recorded as 4.3mm f/2.4 in which the actual iPhone 4 has 3.85mm f/2.8.

The more interesting part is that the EXIF data shows a GPS location as below. If you are not familiar, this is actually the Apple Campus.

iPhone's Facebook 3.5 Major Update

There is a major update in the latest Facebook app version 3.5 released yesterday (06.09.11).
I wonder if this update fixed the intermittent problems of loading comments.
Please also take note that the latest update removes the iPad support. In the previous version, jailbroken users were able to use FaceFoward (Cydia) to run Facebook app in actual iPad mode.

Deutsche Telekom Offers Pre-Ordering for iPhone 5?

News had been circulating around today that German's Deutsche Telekom now allows selected customer to pre-order the next generation iPhone 5. I wonder if Deutsche Telekom will get into trouble since Apple is always very particular of leaking information.
But, who to trust? The telco provider or Apple themselves?

Facebook and Twitter Buttons Now On Apple Store

Further fine-tuning on the Apple Online Store was done to add in the famous Facebook and Twitter buttons.
Apparently it appears on worldwide Apple Store.

Angry Birds Season Celebrates Moon Cake Festival

One of the most important festival in Chinese calendar is the Mid-Autumn Festival or more known as Moon Cake Festival.

"The Mid-Autumn Festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar, which is in September or early October in the Gregorian calendar. It is a date that parallels theautumnal equinox of the solar calendar, when the moon is at its fullest and roundest. The traditional food of this festival is the mooncake, of which there are many different varieties." - quoted from Wikipedia

It was first Smart Cover, now Smart Keyboard?

Inspired by the idea of Smart Cover, Jing Yang of eico Motion Lab in China created Smart Keyboard.
It works similar to the concept behind the Apple Smart Cover. It is attached at the bottom of the iPhone and when roll-over, acts like a keyboard. It works too as a stand when flip over.

Though this is just a concept phase. No actual physical prototype developed yet.
