U Mobile Unlimited Mobile Internet

U Mobile Unlimited Mobile Internet is only RM28/month with a data usage of 500MB. This comes with free 100mins of talk time as well as 30 SMS. Based on the comparison below (which was extracted from U Mobile website), it shows the cheapest by far..

Some terms and condition must be taken note as well. The renewal will be done monthly (30 days) automatically provided that you have a minimum of RM28 in your prepaid balance. You must have at least a min of 5 sen (after deduction of RM28) in order for this plan to work. Unused credit can be rolled over to the next month but the max is 200mins of talk time and 60 SMS. There is no rollover for data.
Upon exceeding of the 500MB quota, data speed will be throttled to 64Kbps.
Once the 100 min talk time or 30 SMS quota is used, standard charges applies for subsequent usage.

Apple Releases 3 New iPhone 4S Ads

Three separate ads on the new iPhone 4S were released recently. They are mainly 30sec video ads enhancing the new feature of iCloud, 8MP camera and the Siri.

Siri Hacked To Run Fully On iPhone 4

It was reported earlier that Steven Troughton-Smith earlier managed to port the Siri into the iPhone 4 but that time, the server wasn't working correctly yet.
This time, he manage to do it successfully according to interview from 9to5Mac. Of course, jailbreak is necessary for all these to happen.

Here's a video of Siri on iPhone 4.

U Mobile RM48*/month 42Mbps Broadband

U Mobile RM48*/month 42Mbps broadband service is quite appealing. There is a reason for the "*" in which I will explain later.
One thing new would be the "rental modem" package. From the table, the prices are separated into Non-Rental and Rental. Rental basically means you are renting the modem from them but to me it's more like an installment you pay for the modem. Not sure if towards the end of the 12months contract (for Rental only), will the modem automatically be yours. I think so..

Basically, it has 2 plans - MB68 and MB128. As the name denotes, it's RM68/m and RM128/m.
There is a RM100 activation fees in any cases. Now, this is where the "*" comes into play. You will effectively pay RM48/m for the next 5 months as there is a Promotional Rebate offer of RM20 x 5 months during this promotional period. But take note at the Upfront Payment (last row), you will still need to pay RM350 in which RM250 is for the modem and RM100 is ?? it's for the activation fees.

So the statement above of RM100 rebate of the activation fees is true but the RM48*/month is only a gimmick. All in all you still pay RM68/month but you don't have to pay the activation fees.

Finally, the throttling speed after data quota is 128kbps. U Mobile also provides "booster plan" for those who have exceeded the quota by paying RM10 for additional 1.5GB with the same speed.

Windows XP - Happy 10th Anniversary

It's now 10 years since Windows XP was first launched. This is by all time the most successful OS of all time. It is still up to date the 2nd most used OS in the world right behind Windows 7 and way beyond Windows Vista.
Microsoft had also announced sometime back that Windows XP will be supported up till 2014.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Now on DiGi

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is now on DiGi's tablet plan called DiGi Broadband Explore 6GB.
With this plan, you are entitled for DiGi's 0% Interest Easy Payment Plan (EPP) which is RM115/month for the next 24 months (RM115 x 24 = RM2760).

The total package breakdown is (RM98 x 12 months) + RM1584 = RM2760
There is also a RM100 of non-refundable registration fees. Take note that the "Advanced Monthly Fee Payment" is only for the DiGi Broadband Explore 6GB plan of 12 months. That means the remaining 12 months of the EPP contract does not include the RM98 plan. You will have to pay extra.
It is also possible to purchase the package without EPP in which you will have to pay RM2860 upfront (inclusive of RM100 registration fee).

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Launched

The much awaited Samsung Galaxy Nexus (or previously known as Nexus Prime) was announced today. Amazingly, it spots a much bigger screen again with 4.65" Super AMOLED HD with a resolution of 1280x720. Most importantly, the Galaxy Nexus spots the new Android 4.0 dubbed Ice Cream Sandwich.
As rumored earlier, the rear camera is only 5MP and the front facing camera is 1.3MP.
One would ask, what is the difference between Samsung Galaxy SII and Samsung Galaxy Nexus?
Besides the bigger display, is the Galaxy Nexus better than Galaxy SII in terms of hardware specification? We now know that the Galaxy Nexus will be running on the latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich, will the Galaxy SII be given the honor to power up with the similar OS?
Brand new features spotted on the Android 4.0 is the NFC-based Android Beam and the Facial Unlock.
One unique hardware feature in the Galaxy Nexus worth mentioning is the barometer.
Expected launch in Asia is November 2011.

Leaked Images & Comparison Chart of Samsung Nexus Prime

Galaxy Nexus or Nexus Prime or whatever you call it will be officially announce later today. Folks from NTT DoCoMo apparently leaked the pictures as well as the comparison charts of the Nexus Prime. The Nexus Prime was originally scheduled to announce earlier but due to Steve Jobs departure, Samsung and Google both collectively agreed to postpone the announcement as a token of respect to the legend.
Rumored specification includes 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB RAM. Also with a Super AMOLED 720p and a built-in 32GB storage capacity. Camera was reported to be 5MP and that seems to be a doubt as we would expect the camera to be at least 8MP echoing the Samsung Galaxy SII.

iPhone 4S Worser Battery Life

Intensive review was done by iLounge on the iPhone 4S.
One thing to note is that the battery life seemed worst when compared with iPhone 4 but of course these are done on the AT&T network as a comparison.

Even with a slight increase of the battery capacity on the iPhone 4S, one must also take note that the A5 is running at 800MHz when compared to the iPhone 4 which is 624MHz. A higher processor speed obviously consumes more power.

Siri Ported to iPhone 4

Courtesy YouTube upload by 9to5Mac, you can now see video of how Steven Troughton-Smith managed to hack Siri into iPhone 4.

Of course it still looks a lot buggy but let's see what happens next. One major problem is that Apple doesn't authenticate Siri commands coming from iPhone 4.

Digi & Celcom Launches Nokia N9 Plans

Above table are the comparison between Digi and Celcom current package for the new Nokia N9. Unfortunately I was not able to find Maxis's plan which could probably mean Maxis has yet to announce the plan. That is a little bit funny cause Maxis was the first to launch the N8.

New U Mobile U28 Plan

U Mobile just heated up the telco competition by introducing yet another interesting postpaid plan.
The selling point on this new plan is the monthly commitment fees of RM28 and the data usage of 1GB.
Similar to how Digi does it, U Mobile's data usage will not be charged after the limit of 1GB. However the speed will be throttled.

Below are the new phone packages with the new U28 plan.

This might look like the first iPhone 4S to arrive. Apparently it arrives at iPhone Italia.

Blackberry Server Down

This would be exactly what RIM would want to avoid, especially if you are charging users for your specific Blackberry services. Once known as the sole reliable and secure mobile services are now in trouble. News are circulating that the problem has now persisted for the 3rd day.
At the moment, affected locations are as below:
  • Middle East
  • Africa
  • South America
  • Europe
  • India
Press statement from RIM:
The messaging and browsing delays being experienced by BlackBerry users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Brazil, Chile and Argentina were caused by a core switch failure within RIM's infrastructure. Although the system is designed to failover to a back-up switch, the failover did not function as previously tested. As a result, a large backlog of data was generated and we are now working to clear that backlog and restore normal service as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience and we will continue to keep you informed.

Thank You Steve

We were shocked by news from Cupertino that ex-CEO of Apple Inc, Steve Jobs had left us on 5th October 2011. He died at the age of 56.
This day come as a very sad day for each individual all over the world. Coincidentally, the disastrous news came a day after Apple releases the next generation iPhone 4S. This goes to show that probably Steve had hold on till the very final moment in which he manages to see his last solid contribution to the iPhone family. Some dubbed the iPhone 4S = iPhone 4S-teve.

The picture above shows the tribute of Apple Inc towards the legendary Steve Jobs for his everlasting contribution towards man-kind. News spread all over the world through some of the technology that Steve invented with his teams of experts in Apple. The whole micro-blogging service, Twitter was flooded by tributes to Steve on the day the sad news were released.

Pictures of all over the world were seen paying tribute to Steve, mostly at the nearest Apple Store that one could find.
Kuala Lumpur
Santa Monica
Moscow
Hong Kong
Cupertino (flag at half-mast)
UK
California (Steve's home)

Below is the statement from Steve's successor, Tim Cook:

Team,

I have some very sad news to share with all of you. Steve passed away earlier today.

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

We are planning a celebration of Steve's extraordinary life for Apple employees that will take place soon. If you would like to share your thoughts, memories and condolences in the interim, you can simply email rememberingsteve@apple.com.

No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve's death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.

iPhone 4S

In the Apple event yesterday, Apple finally releases the next generation iPhone, dubbed iPhone 4S. Yes it's not iPhone 5. Much to a disappointed crowd, the new Apple CEO Tim Cook present to the world the bumped up internal specification of the next generation iPhone.

The most notable new feature would be the Siri Voice Recognition system on the new iOS5.
From what I can see, Apple is making another revamp on the already available voice recognition program. Judging from the commercials, Siri looks to be amazing. Judge it yourself from the video feed below.

The other enhancement with the new iPhone 4S is the 8MP camera of f/2.4 aperture with a video recording capability of 1080p.

Other internal upgrades include the new A5 processor which is similar to the iPad 2. It's a dual-core running at 1GHz and an internal RAM of 1GB. Besides, the radio system is now capable of supporting both GSM and CDMA all in one chip. Words are circulating that the unlock is only possible on GSM and not CDMA. The maximum download speed is bumped from 7.2Mbps to 14.4Mbps. Just for comparison purposes, Samsung Galaxy S2 is capable up to 21Mbps.

What was not noted was that the front facing camera is still with as the original iPhone 4, a 0.3MP version which is bad as the Samsung Galaxy S2 is already having a 2MP.
Also, this time around, there is a 64GB version.

So, when is it available? It will be available on 14th October on 7 major countries and on 28th October the next 22 countries (Singapore is one of them). As usual, Malaysia is not part of the early birds. The remaining countries will be available by end of the year.
In the past when iPad 2 was launched, Malaysia wasn't part of the 2nd batch which Singapore was either. But eventually iPad 2 had a parallel launch in Singapore and Malaysia. Let's cross our fingers and hope for the same this time for the iPhone 4S.

My verdict: In this new iPhone 4S, the focus is mainly on the performance of the device which includes the dual-core A5 chip (which runs almost double the speed and also 7x the graphic performance - as advertised) and the software which is the new iOS5. Nothing changes from the outlook which may be quite disappointed for most people as not everybody fancy internal spec bump.

Before we end the preview, it's always good to see Apple's ad on the iPhone 4S..

iPhone 4S - It's Official

Disappointed?
As much rumored, it is true that the next generation iPhone is the iPhone 4S.
Same externals.. only different in internal.
A5 dual-core processor and 8MP camera..
